Hi, My name is Laura, and I love dolphins, especially the Pink Dolphins found in Hong Kong. Did you know the Pink Dolphin is also the Indo-Pacific Humpback Dolphin. I learned that in school. They are actually born grey, and don't turn pink until after they have grown-up some. Did I mention that I love the Pink Dolphins!! The Pink Dolphins home is threatened by humans, and I just want everybody to know we need to do our best to make sure they always have a clean and safe home.
Last summer my family and I traveled to Hong Kong, and I got to go dolphin watching. We were on the boat for several hours looking for the Pink Dolphins, and luckily we found them. I think there were either three or four of them, and a couple of times they came right up next to the boat. It was so much fun.
The boat we were on was run by the Hong Kong Dolphinwatch. On the back of the boat was a purple dolphin flag, which I really liked, because I love dolphins, and purple is my favorite color.
I hope someday to go back and visits my dolphin friends again.
I wanted to say hello to all dolphin lovers everywhere, and welcome you to SaveThePinkDolphin.com.
So why are the Pink Dolphins threatened? There are several reasons.
They built an airport on top of their home. The new airport in Hong Kong was built right on top of where the dolphins used to live. All the noise and pollution made the dolphins sad. It also made me sad.
The dolphins live in the middle of a very busy waterway. They always have to look out to make sure they are not run-over by boats, and that scares them, a lot! I know it would scare me living in the middle of a water freeway.
All the pollution, construction, fishing, and boats have reduced the number of fish that the dolphins need to survive.
